The Kennedys of   Dolla, Tipperary

Despite the descendants of Cornelius & Margaret Kennedy now residing all over the world, i.e. USA, Australia & Ireland, the Kennedy family bond remains. This was evidenced by a family reunion held in Mt Gambier during July 2010 which saw approx. 85 descendants revisit the area where one of the sons, John, had established himself and started his own rather large family tree!  This was followed up by an amazing Reunion in Dolla, Ireland during Easter in April 2012.  54 people flew in from all around the world for the occasion.  One special aspect of the reunion was that we were all able to visit the original family home in Dolla.      Visit the Members Only section for photos of  both the Mt Gambier and Dolla Reunions.

Kennedy

(or O Kennedy) There is a Kennedy clan in Scotland also who, very far back, may have been related to the Irish Kennedys. They were certainly kinsman of King Brian Boru, from whose brother, Dunchad, they descend. For a long time the O Kennedys were settled in Clare, near Killaloe. The O Briens and the MacNamaras drove them away to Tipperary and Kilkenny, then known as Ormond. For 400 years they were Lords of Ormond and grew so mighty they divided into several new septs. For a long time they held out against the Butler-led encroachment of the Normans. These stirring times are recorded in the Ormond Deeds (c. 1579), which were presented to John F. Kennedy during his 1963 visit.

Family motto:
"Adhaero Virtuti"
Cling to virtue
